    The Experience

What will I see at the quilt show?

You’ll experience a vibrant showcase of quilters of all ages and skill levels, with over 1,000 quilts on display throughout town. The show includes special exhibits featuring unique themes and cohesive designs, alongside a wide variety of artistic styles—from traditional to modern. As a non-juried show, Quilt Show Day celebrates creativity and community, highlighting work from quilters ages 7 to 87+ in a welcoming, open-air setting full of color and inspiration.

Will there be vendors or items for sale?

Quilt Show Day is a non-commercialized event, with a focus on supporting our local Sisters businesses—many of whom help make the show possible. We encourage visitors to explore and shop locally while enjoying the displays throughout town.

While there are no traditional vendors, SOQS merchandise is available at our Show Day Information & Merchandise Booth, as well as at our local quilt shop, The Stitchin’ Post. In addition, a small number of show sponsors will be featured on Hood Avenue, where they will share their products and support the quilting community.

    Are there demonstrations or workshops?

Quilt Show Day itself does not include demonstrations or workshops. However, classes are offered the week prior through Quilter’s Affair, organized by The Stitchin’ Post and held at Sisters High School. This special event features an incredible lineup of teachers and a wide variety of classes for all skill levels.

We encourage visitors to explore Quilter’s Affair for an even deeper quilting experience: https://stitchinpost.com/pages/qa-home

    Can I meet the quilters?

Yes—there are many opportunities to connect with quilters throughout the show! While you may not be able to meet the maker of every individual quilt, our Showcase quilters will be on hand to visit with guests and share the stories behind their work. You’ll also find participating quilters hosting each of the special exhibits, and they’re always happy to chat and answer questions. Don’t be shy—quilters love to talk about what they create!

What happens if there is bad weather?

Quilt Show Day takes place outdoors throughout the town of Sisters and is weather-dependent. In over 50 years, we’ve only experienced one brief rainstorm—and that was at the very end of the day!

  • What is the relationship between the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and The Stitchin' Post?
The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show (SOQS) and The Stitchin' Post share a common history that dates back to 1975, when Jean Wells Keenan opened The Stitchin' Post and organized the first outdoor quilt show in Sisters, Oregon. Jean hung quilts just outside her business in Sisters, creating what would become the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. Over the years, both the Quilt Show and The Stitchin' Post grew, helping establish Sisters as a destination for quilters from around the world.
Why did SOQS become a separate organization?
As the Quilt Show expanded, it became clear that it had grown beyond what could be managed as part of a single business. To support its continued growth and long-term sustainability, the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show became an independent nonprofit organization in 2005.
Today, SOQS operates as its own nonprofit while maintaining a strong partnership with The Stitchin' Post.
How do SOQS and The Stitchin' Post work together today?
While they are separate organizations, SOQS and The Stitchin' Post continue to work closely together to celebrate quilting and create an exceptional Quilt Week experience.
Jean Wells Keenan remains a member of the SOQS Board of Directors, helping guide the organization she founded. Both organizations share a commitment to fostering creativity, education, and community through quilting.
    What happens during Quilt Week?
The unofficial “Quilt Week” is the week-long celebration of quilting that takes place each July in Sisters. It includes Quilter's Affair, hosted by The Stitchin' Post, and culminates with the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. Quilter's Affair brings together students and instructors from around the world for a week of classes, learning, and inspiration. The week concludes with the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, which welcomes approximately 8,000–10,000 visitors to Sisters in a single day.

How does Quilt Week benefit the Sisters community?

For more than 50 years, Quilt Week has been an important part of the cultural and economic life of Sisters.
Visitors attending Quilter's Affair and the Quilt Show support local hotels, vacation rentals, restaurants, shops, galleries, and other businesses throughout the region. Beyond its economic impact, Quilt Week brings together residents, volunteers, artists, and visitors in a celebration of creativity and community that has become part of the identity of Sisters.
What began as a small outdoor display of quilts in 1975 has grown into an internationally recognized event while remaining true to its founding spirit of sharing quilts, welcoming visitors, and building community.
